Bowling For Rhinos
The Tulsa Zoo has made a BIG commitment to rhinos! In March 2013, we broke ground on our first Master Plan project: the Mary K. Chapman Rhinoceros exhibit. The $3.1 million exhibit will replace the outdated 38-year-old facility with a naturalistic, state-of-the-art home for the zoo’s resident white rhinoceroses, Jeannie and Buzbie.
But that’s not all…
Our zookeepers are making a difference for rhinos in the wild, also! In a continuing effort to help protect endangered rhinos and other threatened species and their habitat, our Tulsa zookeepers will sponsor the 11th annual “Bowling for Rhinos” fundraiser. All proceeds go directly to support three Rhino Conservation Projects conserving the remaining five species of Rhino in Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (LWC) in Kenya, Ujung Kulon National Park in Java, Indonesia and Bukit Barisan Selaton National Park (BBSNP) in Sumatra, Indonesia.
Each project provides an area which not only protects rhinos, but also everything from orchids to elephants. Tulsa zookeepers have raised more than $90,000 over the last ten years during this annual bowl-a-thon. Tulsa zookeepers are making a difference by supporting these valuable ecosystems for future generations.
The Tulsa Chapter of American Association of Zookeepers will hold its 11th annual “Bowling for Rhinos” on Sunday, July 21st at 4:30PM at AMF Sheridan Lanes (3121 South Sheridan Road).
Please join the Tulsa Zoo in supporting our zookeepers’ annual bowl-a-thon!
