This process will require both time and patience of all involved, so here is some basic information to consider before you apply:
Q: Where can I get an application for a Tulsa Zoo tag?
A: Official applications can be downloaded here. If you would like an application faxed, call the Tulsa Zoo at 669-6635.
Q: How much does it cost?
A: A Tulsa Zoo vehicle tag will cost $37.
Q: What will the Tulsa Zoo tag look like?
A: Our winning design chosen by you is below:

Q: How quickly will I receive my tag after I pay for it?
A: Because Tulsa Zoo does not currently have a state tag, we must meet the requirements of the Oklahoma Tax Commission. We are creating a piece of history, but this will take some time. Tags are ONLY available at this time on our website, in person at the Tulsa Zoo or at our sponsor, Yvonne Hovell's Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Tulsa. No applications are available at a tag agency at this time. We ask for your patience in helping this historic project a reality!
Q: How can I pay for the tag?
A: If applying by mail, checks can be made out to Tulsa Zoo Friends. If applying in-person at the zoo, a personal check, cash and credit cards will be accepted. Tulsa zoo accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover cards. Please NOTE your payment and application will be submitted to the OTC by Tulsa Zoo Friends.
Q: If I submit my application, along with my payment by mail, where do I send it to?
A: Send BOTH the application and a check for $37 payable to Tulsa Zoo Friends to:

Q: I already have an Oklahoma tag…can I apply for a Tulsa Zoo tag?
A: Yes.
Q: Once I receive my new Tulsa Zoo tag, what do I do with my previous tag?
A: Keep it! Oklahoma requires tag holders with specialty plates to keep their original plate in their vehicle at all times. A special license plate is to be displayed on the rear of the vehicle for which it is issued. The regular license plate may be kept inside the vehicle and produced upon request by law enforcement.
Q: Once I place my new Tulsa Zoo tag on my vehicle and keep my old tag in my vehicle, do I need to renew my original tag?
A: YES. The state of Oklahoma requires you to keep BOTH tags up to date. Once a special license plate has been assigned to an applicant, that applicant shall have priority to such license plate for succeeding years, provided a timely paid application for renewal is submitted. To insure that you receive a renewal application each year, please notify the Oklahoma Tax Commission of any change in your address.
Q: Did the Plate project reach its required number of paid applications?
A: The Tulsa Zoo was required to obtain 500 paid applications before the state recognizes the plate. Thanks to our generous sponsor, Yvonne Hovell's Dodge Chrysler Jeep of Tulsa we have reached our goal. Currently, the plate is in the mock-up phase. Once approved by the zoo, it will enter the production phase. It is after this approval by the zoo that each applicant will be contacted by the Oklahoma Tax Commission to verify interest and vehicle information. In the interim, each paid applicant will receive a letter to confirm their application and fee has been received. The most up-to-date information will always be accessible on the zoo’s website, www.tulsazoo.org. For questions, you can also contact Tulsa Zoo’s Marketing & PR Director, Jodi Koch at 918-669-6635.

Q: Does Tulsa Zoo receive any revenue from the specialty tag and where does that money go?
A: Creating a specialty tag for the Tulsa Zoo is a fundraising effort. Aside of the incredible visibility and advertising this tag will provide, most importantly, the funds raised from this venture go directly back into improvements to the zoo. Proceeds from the state tag program will enable Tulsa Zoo to bring Oklahomans an even better zoo experience for many years to come. We are truly excited to bring to the state the very FIRST Tulsa Zoo tag and graciously thank all of you for your support in making this project possible.
Q: I want a Tulsa Zoo tag, but can I personalize my new zoo tag?
A: Yes. Once the zoo has received the necessary 500 applications, they are submitted to the Oklahoma Tax Commission. All Zoo tag applicants will be notified by mail from the Oklahoma Tax Commission and asked for your choices for the personalized Tulsa Zoo Plate. There are two choices, random number or specialty. Whatever your choice, there is NO additional charge.
Q: I currently have a specialty tag on my vehicle. What do I need to do if I want a Tulsa Zoo tag with the same personalization?
A: You can apply for another specialty tag and request the same personalization on your new Tulsa Zoo tag. There is no extra charge to transfer your existing personalized tag to another specialty tag with the same personalization. The Oklahoma Tax Commission will contact you by mail after they receive all 500 applications. They will ask you your choice for your new tag, specialty or numbered.
Q: I have an existing specialty tag. What do I do with my old specialty tag after I receive my new specialty zoo tag?
A: Remove it from your vehicle. Once your new zoo personalized specialty tag is received, remove your former specialty tag from your vehicle. You DO NOT have to keep this specialty tag in your vehicle, but, you MUST keep your original tag in your vehicle at all times.
Q: What happens if the zoo does not reach the required number of applications?
A: UPDATE: The Tulsa Zoo has obtained community sponsorship for this project and has met its requirement. The process is still timely, so we appreciate your patience and commitment to YOUR zoo and this project!
Q: I have a question about this program that has not been addressed. Who can I contact?
A: Contact Jodi Koch, Tulsa Zoo’s Marketing & PR Director at jkoch@tulsazoo.org or call 918-669-6635.
