Scout Programs

Zoo Trail Tour:

This tour is for any Boy or Girl Scouts except Tiger Scouts and Daisy Scouts. 

They are only on weekends unless school is out district wide.  

Schedule at least two weeks in advance. 

Tour takes between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.  The docent will meet group at the front gate unless otherwise arranged.

The leader needs to pay for the Scouts and Leaders as a group.  Scouts and Leaders get in for half price.  $2 per Scout and $4 per Leader (maximum 2).  Any other parents and siblings pay regular price.  

We ask that parents and siblings do other things on the Zoo grounds until the tour is over.  Then they can join the group and stay on grounds as long as they wish.

Tour consists of the following:

Docent will take group to the Helmerich Discovery Center and spend 20 to 30 minutes showing them biofacts from the five vertebrate groups.  Then the docent will take them out onto the grounds to find 20 animals from the five vertebrate groups.

One of the requirements of the badge is to pick up trash.  We ask that the group not do this on Zoo grounds but they are welcome to do it in Mohawk Park, at Oxley Nature Center or another place that they prefer.

For the Boy Scout badge, the leader does all the paperwork and  gets the badge from the Boy Scout office.

There is not a Girl Scout badge for doing this tour but the tour meets some of the requirements needed for some of their badges.
