Offsite Programs for Schools

Zoo Outreach Opportunities

The Tulsa Zoo and Living Museum provides informal science programs to schools and organizations in Tulsa and the surrounding areas. Each interactive, inquiry-based program is presented by a staff member or trained docent volunteer and is 45 - 60 minutes in length, depending on the topic and audience. Most presentations include visual aides, biofacts and a live animal. The presentations can be tailored to meet the specific needs of the group.

Wildlife on Wheels (WOW):
The Wildlife on Wheels program is available for students first grade through college from September through April.  Program topics are designed to ehance the classroom curricula and meet PASS standards.  Sessions include hands-on biofacts (i.e. skeletons, skins, eggs, etc.) and a live animal, weather permitting.  To request a program, please complete the Outreach Request Form and return to the education department.

 Teacher Loan Trunks:
Bring a little of the zoo to your classroom with our loan trunk program.  Trunks contents vary but may include biofacts such as skulls or pelts, curricula, activities, posters and more.  For a list of current trunks and a reservation form, click here.

Community Outreach:
Educational hands-on programs can be scheduled year-round for civic and community groups such as scouts groups, summer camps, church groups, libraries, universities, etc. Programs include visual aides, biofacts displays, and a live animal – depending on the weather.

Cost:
Presently, there is no fee for these programs; however, donations to the Zoo Education Department help support these programs (checks should be written to: TZF-Education).

Scheduling:
Locations must be within a 60 mile radius of Tulsa. If further than 30 miles you may be asked to pay for mileage. Sites greater than 40 miles need to be a "Blitz" - a WOW program for the entire school or a large segment of the school.  Sites greater than 60 miles and requesting a Blitz will be considered on a case by case basis. Programs should be scheduled at least 4 weeks in advance.

For more information or to schedule a program, call (918) 669-6219 or e-mail the Education Department.
