Earth Fest 2008 again saw large crowds of guests learning to go green. The Zoo hosted over 7,500 visitors at this annual gathering of earth-friendly businesses and organizations. Everyone was treated to outstanding weather and great entertainment including a live, interactive bird show put on by the Sutton Avian Research Center in Bartlesville. This year’s Earth Day Hero was Corey Williams, Executive Director of Sustainable Tulsa and Development Director for the Millennium Center for Green and Safe Living. She is very deserving of this honor and was obviously excited to receive it. Bank of Oklahoma received the first ever Corporate Earth Day Hero award for their printer cartridge recycling partnership with the Tulsa Zoo. All proceeds go to benefit the Zoo’s worldwide conservation efforts.
Also this year, as part of the re-greening of the Tulsa Zoo and the Re-Green Tulsa initiative, over 50 trees were planted on grounds by volunteers. These trees will more than replace the large number of trees lost during last winter’s ice storm.
