Education & Conservation

Mission: The mission of the Education Department is to help people of all ages develop a better understanding of the natural world. Education programs are conducted on-site and away from the Zoo.

Visiting the Zoo? Check out some of these educational activities (Weather permitting, some are seasonal. Be sure to check the front gate for changes and additions!):

  1. Drop by the Hemlerich Discovery Center:  Open 10:00-noon and 1:00-3:00 daily, this is a great interactive area where you can touch a snake shed, learn about Oklahoma animals, meet some of our animal ambassadors up close and much more!  Located between the gift store and the elephants, this is the best kept secret at the Zoo!
  2. Attend a Keeper Talk/Animal Feeding:
    • Penguins (1:30 pm Fri/ Sat/ Sun, year-round)
    • Aldabra Tortoises (11:30 am Mon/Thurs/Sat, summer only)
    • Elephant Demonstrations (11:00 AM - Elephant Demo Yard - Weekends- Weather Permitting)
  3. Reserve an Educational Program:  Bringing a school or scout group to the Zoo?  Interpretive staff and volunteers teach themed programs and lead tours!  Adults, families and children can register for educational programs as well!  Call 918-669-6219 for details or e-mail the education department for details.  If your school cannot come to the zoo, we can come to you!  Schedule your Wildlife On Wheels program today.
